History of the Double Bed

There is only limited information on the history of the double bed. Up until the 1960s a double bed was the most common size bed for couples to sleep in, when it was replaced by the queen size bed.

The double bed is the only standard size in the US, the UK and Australia. All other sized beds’ measurements vary in some way across the three countries.
