Is a Double Bed Right for You?
Deciding whether a double bed is right for you depends on a few different factors.
First and foremost, if you plan on sleeping in the bed with someone else then be aware that a double bed is a bit on the cozy side for two. That’s not necessarily a bad thing (in fact a double was the most common size for couples up until the 1960s) if you’re ok with sleeping close.
Next, you need to determine if a double bed is long and wide enough for you. The best way to do this is to actually lay down in a double and see how it feels. But if you can’t find one to lay in then know that a double is 75 inches long (6 feet 3 inches) and 54 inches wide (4 feet 6 inches) which can give you an idea how the fit will be.
Finally, the size of the room that the bed is going to go in will be a factor. In most rooms (even small ones) a double bed will fit just fine, but it is important to double check. Also, if you happen to have a larger room then you may want to opt for a larger bed like a queen size.
